The white area is a slot route. Very common on guitars, the fulcrum block passes through the slot as the tremolo rests on the surface of the body as opposed to a fully recessed tremolo.

Not every guitar body is routed the same. Sometimes the slot can peek out from under a flat mount as shown in the right picture. This an extreme example.
