Upgrade cams have 2 arm holes and come in 3 different sounding metals. Read below to understand the differences...
Steel on Steel, which is equivalent to the current 2300 with steel saddles and steel cam, is more crisp sounding than brass and somewhat thinner. Steel has more sustain and is better for metal or shred. You get good long harmonics with steel and the notes stand out better in the mix. If you worship the devil, ride a Harley or are just plain pissed off at the world... this is the trem you want. If you don't have any black T-shirts... try brass or maybe grow a pair, and come out of the closet. You will be happier.
Brass on Aluminum, which is equivalent to the current 2310 with brass saddles and aluminum cam, has a unique twang to it. Think Allman Brothers lead solos. In fact Les Dudek of the Allman Brothers band, who co-wrote "ramblin man" uses this configuration on his Strat to achieve this unique sound.
Steel on Brass which is equivalent to the current 2315 with Steel saddles with a Brass cam. This configuration is considered dark and mysterious because it has a warm bottom end with the sharp edge of steel added so the notes ring a little clearer and sustain longer. A favorite of Kerry King of Slayer.
Steel on Aluminum which is not equivalent to any current Kahler model, can be used if you are an extreme shred head and don't care about hearing deficiencies. The reason Kahler did not come out with this configuration is because it had way too much sustain and energy and was too "over the top". This configuration is really useful for only one style of music.. think "emo screamo" for the guitar. but hey if you like that type of tone..... go for it!
Brass on Brass (like a stock 7300 Hybrid), is equivalent to the current 2320 with brass saddles and brass cam, The tone is warm and inviting with plenty of fat and vintage undertones. Best for rock and blues style playing. It has a somewhat happy tone, not too piercing to the ear. Mainly for those players with a happy outlook on life! If you live in the dark side and wear black T-shirts all the time... go steel.
