Made to retrofit Tune-o-Matic style bridges with a stoptail post spread of 3-1/4" (82.5mm), the 7200 Hybrid can mount up directly to the Tune-o-Matic's posts/studs. Designed to fit on early Gibson's, this trem was sported on many factory LP's, SG's and Explorers during the mid 80's. Since that time however, Gibson's and most other guitars with Tune-o-Matic style bridges had a standardized installation location that was programmed into the routing machines at the factory and in those days, Kahlers were a drop in perfect installation. But since late 1988 to present, the stoptail part of the Tune-o-Matic bridge has been shifted around like the grills on a Chevy car over the years. The bridge section is always in the same place for the scale range of course, but the stoptail piece is not as important. It can go anywhere since all it does is hold the strings. Unfortunately the Kahler needs these post/studs to mount to and since they are no longer in a standardized locale, the studs usually need to be removed and relocated in the right spot. But how do you know if any major modifications are needed? Here is the rule of thumb...
If you have between 2-1/8" and 2-1/4" between the 2 bridge pieces, using the small E saddle notch (which should be set to the scale length) and the center/middle of the stop tail piece stud for measurements, you will be fine and not much will have to be done to mount it except the shallow 1" deep routing for the spring cavity. In case the post/studs need to be relocated, you can use the PL-8 coverage plate (below, left) to surround the base and the relocated stud holes giving you a nice cosmetic finish. You can order the PL-8 with the tremolo as an option. For new installations on arched top and flat guitar bodies that require a higher bridge because of drop away neck angles, the 7200 is also your model. All 7200 Hybrids come with an arm, mounting studs, riser wheels/inserts, routing template and a FREE stringlock if you need one. New optional trick arms now available.
